PROTECTION OF DOMESTIC RESIDENCES
During 2012 local authorities in one Country adopted the installation of an automatic fire protection system within all newly constructed domestic premises. This recognised the potential savings to property and human lives that could be achieved by introducing such a policy. There have been many reported cases where fires within homes have caused the deaths of those who live within it. Fire does not distinguish people by their age, class or creed.
As with many fires early detection restricts the potential structural damage that might otherwise have been done to a home and more importantly dramatically reduces the possible effects of smoke inhalation by its inhabitants. Of the 306 (three hundred and six) dwelling fire fatalities in Great Britain during 2010-2011, 37 % (i.e. 16,400 fires) were within a building which did not include any form of automatic detection device. An additional 76 fatalities were within domestic dwellings which did have point type smoke detection - BUT where the detector failed to operate. (Information source: www.communities.gov.uk).
These fires are not unique to the U.K. As an example, the National Center for Health Statistics in the U.S.A. confirm 3,391 (three thousand, three hundred and Ninety-one) domestic fire related deaths in the USA during 2009 and the NFPA (National Fire Protection Agency) have published statistics which identify 370,000 home structure fires during 2011.
PROLINE LHS is a small diameter (3.5mm) temperature sensitive cable which may be installed very close to a potential fire source and which continuously monitors for temperature changes at ANY and ALL points along its kms long length. PROLINE linear sensor cable may be installed like a telephone cable. On top of skirting boards, around door frames, within cupboards, around cooker extraction hoods as well as within roof spaces and under false floors. An associated optional interface unit can not only identify an over-heat or fire condition but also identify where along the length of installed sensor cable the alarm condition has been detected. If required a manually operated device (manual call point) can be integrated into the installed sensor cable length to allow manual operation of an alarm and provide a simple means of regularly testing the installation by simulating an alarm condition. Having detected a fire, manual extinguishing can be applied using a portable extinguisher or (if required) the PROLINE system can automatically operate an extinguishing system -supplied by others.
Any developer/builder could offer a dwelling to a prospective purchaser with or without an alarm detection system included. By increasing the price of the property fitted with an alarm device by 2000 GBP, they would be making an additional healthy profit and providing the purchaser with a life and property protection system.
