Temperature sensing for all types of environments.
There are many risk areas where dirty, dusty, damp, corrosive environments or limited areas of access and surveillance severely restrict the specification and application of point type smoke detection. The same applies to aspirating and beam detection...both of which rely upon the presence and detection of smoke before they are able to provide an alarm signal to a customer central control facility.
It has been said that whilst heat cable is false alarm free, it only detects in the late stages of a flaming fire. This is NOT an accurate statement. As a 3.5 mms diameter continuous detector the linear sensor cable can be installed at the exact point of risk and with alarm temperature ratings of 68C/155F, 88C/190F, 105C/221F or 185C/365F it can provide an alarm indication at a pre-combustion stage. Statistics indicate that the majority of fire conditions (80% +) are undetected temperature rises which progress to combustion. Proline FM approved and UL listed linear temperature sensor can be connected directly to a central alarm control panel zone monitoring unit or similar device or via a Proline supplied interface unit which also provides an alarm point location facility....of particular importance in a no visible flame overheat situation. A recent additional optional feature provided by the Proline ZI interface unit is a remote alarm signalling via SMS to customer designated cell phone numbers (maximum of three).
International events where loss of human life and negative effects to capital investment as a result of a fire condition not being prevented or rapidly detected include an electrical fault on a Metro train (285 dead), a fire within a Night Club (232+ dead), a short circuit condition on a cable within a Russian psychiatric hospital (40 dead). More than 550 deaths at just three (3) sites)!
Proline could have provided improved detection at the above referred sites by monitoring and signalling adverse temperature rises. In some cases at a pre-combustion stage !!
